Installation and Startup
This section
covers the installation of the VFP Enterprise Accounting system on
a Single
User Computer and on a Networked
Computer. If you are not sure of the hardware
and software requirements please see the section on System
Requirements.
Startup
procedures are covered in this section. Both Single
User and Network Environments are
covered.
Installation
on a Single User Computer
- Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
To Install follow these steps:
- Begin at the
Windows desktop.
- Close any open
applications.
- Inset the
CD-ROM disc into your CD-ROM drive or if you downloaded the install
file double click on the install file.
- The VFP Enterprise Accounting
Startup window will appear.
- Click on the
INSTALL button and follow the on-screen instructions to
install the program.
If you insert the CD in the
drive and the VFP Enterprise Accounting
Startup window does not appear automatically
on the screen, you can install the program manually.
- Click on the Start button on the task bar and
select Run.
- Type E:\setup.exe (if your CD-ROM has a different
drive letter assigned, substitute that letter for E.)
If you are installing from a downloaded file using the My Computer
folder find the install file in the folder where
you saved it and double click on it.

- Click on the
OK button to begin the installation and follow the on-screen
instructions to install the program.
To
Start VFP Enterprise Accounting Single User
After you
have successfully installed VFP Enterprise Accounting onto your hard disk, follow
the steps below to run the program:
- Begin at the
Windows desktop.
- Click on the
start button then select Programs, and then VFP Enterprise
Accounting or if your installation created a shortcut on
your Desktop, click the shortcut.
- Click on VFP Enterprise Accounting
to start the program.

- Next enter
your access code and password. If you are starting the
system for the first time, use the defaults listed below. Both
the Access Code and Password are case sensitive.
- Enter ADMIN in capital letters for the Access
Code if this is your first time into the program after the
installation.
- The systems is shipped without a
password. If this is you first time running the
software after installation, leave the password field empty
and click the OK button. If you have already started
the system and assigned passwords, then enter the correct
password, then click the OK button. Both passwords and
Access Codes are case sensitive.
- The Select Company
check-box
should be left un-checked if this is the first time entering
the system. Once you create additional companies, you
can check this box, then after you click OK you will be
allowed to select the company you want to work with.
- DO NOT check the
"Select Company" check box the first time into the
system.
- Click the OK
button.
- If you made a
mistake entering either your Access Code or Password, the
following screen will display:

- Click the OK button and try again. You will have
three chances to login. If after the third time you
fail to login, the system will exit. You will have to restart
VFP Enterprise Accounting.
- If you entered the correct Access Code and Password,
the system will log you in and take you to the VFP Enterprise Accounting
Desktop. If you checked the "Select Company"
check box, the company selection screen appears.

- Select the
company you will be working with by clicking on the company
name in the grid.
- Click the OK
button.
- The main VFP Enterprise Accounting
desktop should now appear.
- You are now
ready to begin using the system. You should proceed to
the Setting
up VFP Enterprise Accounting
section
and Appendix A - Setup Checklist.
The installation
process creates an ICON on your desktop. You can double-click
the VFP Enterprise Accounting ICON on
your desktop to start the program.
Installation
on a Networked Computer
- Windows 2003/2008 Server
This installation procedure does not discuss Network
Basics. If you are not a network engineer, you should
review your vendors operating system manual for instructions on
how to setup users, permissions and shared drives on your file
server.
To Install VFP Enterprise Accounting on your server follow these steps:
- Begin at the
Servers Windows desktop.
- You should be logged in as Administrator.
- Close any open
applications.
- Inset the
CD-ROM disc into your CD-ROM drive or if you downloaded the install
file double click on the install file.
- The VFP Enterprise Accounting
Startup window will appear.
- Click on the
INSTALL button and follow the on-screen instructions to
install the program.
If the VFP Enterprise Accounting
Startup window does not appear automatically
on the server screen, you can install the program manually.
- Click on the Start button on the task bar and
select Run.
- Type E:\setup.exe (if your CD-ROM has a different
drive letter assigned, substitute that letter for E.)

- Click on the
OK button to begin the installation and follow the on-screen
instructions to install the program.
- Once the installation has been
completed, you need to "SHARE" the ROOT directory VFP Enterprise Accounting
is installed into and select a
Share Name The default share name is VFP2K. You must
make sure that users will have access to the shared
directory. For permission requirements refer to
Appendix C. This appendix also provides a list of the files
installed into your server. This completes the server
installation phase.
- DO NOT START THE VFP Enterprise Accounting
PROGRAM FROM THE SERVER. IF YOU DO,
THE DATA FILES WILL NOT BE INITIALIZED CORRECTLY. THIS
VERSION REQUIRES THAT THIS PROCESS BE DONE FROM A
WORKSTATION.
- Once you have completed
the server
installation, proceed to a workstation. Map the shared
drive from the server onto your workstation. The drive
letter is not important since VFP Enterprise Accounting does not relate to
drive letters. To make things consistent you might
want to use "V" if available, as your shared
directory. You may also use the \\Server\VFPSharedFolder
instead of a direct drive letter mapping.
- Create a short-cut on the Windows
desktop to the VFP Enterprise Accounting executable file; VFPAcctRt.exe on the mapped
server drive. If you do not know how to create a
short-cut please ask your network administrator or refer to
your operating system manual.
- Double click on the VFP Enterprise Accounting
short-cut on your desktop. The VFP Enterprise Accounting
system should start up. The first time you run VFP Enterprise Accounting, the system will run through an initialization
phase.
- The login
screen should appear as in the picture below.

- Enter ADMIN in capital letters for the Access Code.
- The systems is shipped without a
password. If this is you first time running the
software after installation, leave the password field empty
and click the OK button. If you have already started
the system and assigned passwords, then enter the correct
password, then click the OK button. Both passwords and
Access Codes are case sensitive.
- DO NOT check the
"Select Company" check box.
- Click OK.
- The system begins an initialization sequences which should
only take several seconds. If everything went OK
proceed to the next step.
- The main VFP Enterprise Accounting
desktop should now appear.
- You have now
completed the VFP Enterprise Accounting network installation
and initialization process.
- Proceed to the
other workstations, map the network drive, and create the VFP Enterprise Accounting
shortcut on each desktop.
- Proceed to
install any required printers.
- You are now
ready to begin using the system. You should proceed to
the Setting
up VFP Enterprise Accounting
section
and Appendix A - Setup Checklist.
To
Start VFP Enterprise Accounting in a Networked Environment
After you
have successfully installed VFP Enterprise Accounting
onto your
server and initialized the first workstation, follow
the steps below to run the program:
- Begin at the
Windows desktop on your workstation.
- Double Click on the VFP Enterprise Accounting
shortcut on the desktop.
- The login
screen should appear as in the picture below.

- If there is an
Access Code displayed, it is from your most recent work
session.
- Next enter
your Access Code and Password.
- Click the OK
button.
- If you made a
mistake entering either your Access Code or Password, the
following screen will display:

- Click the OK button and try again. You will have
three chances to login. If after the third time you
fail to login, the system will exit. You will have to restart
VFP Enterprise Accounting.
- If you entered the correct Access Code and Password,
the system will log you in and take you to the VFP Enterprise Accounting
Desktop. If you checked the "Select Company"

name in the grid.
- Click the OK
button.
- The main VFP Enterprise Accounting
desktop should now appear.
Exiting
VFP Enterprise Accounting
- Click the "X" in
the upper right corner of the VFP Enterprise Accounting desktop. This
will close all open windows and exit. You may also
select FILE from the drop-down menu, then
Exit.
- Both will perform the same
exit functions.
- A small system message box
will appear.

- If you want to exit, select
Yes if you do not want to exit select No.
